Niter

Niter is a crafting resource obtained by harvesting Pyroblossom that grows naturally in the volcanic biome. It is not gathered from mining or production chains; its supply depends on reaching and collecting this specific wild plant.

Its only known use is as an ingredient in Black Powder. That makes Niter part of the explosives branch of the item economy rather than a general-purpose material. Because Black Powder itself has very limited applications, the practical demand for Niter is also narrow.

In practice, Niter is a low-priority resource to stockpile in large quantities. Even though it is needed for Black Powder, Black Powder is only used for Explosive Barricade and Land Mine, and both of those are relatively awkward as defensive structures. As a result, Niter is mainly worth collecting when you specifically want to produce those explosive defenses, rather than as something to hoard for broad industrial use.
