Pyroblossom

Pyroblossom is a plant that grows naturally in the volcanic biome. It can be harvested to obtain Niter.

Its main purpose is as a source of Niter, and Niter is used only to craft Black Powder. Black Powder itself has very limited use, since it is only used for Explosive Barricade and Land Mine. Because of that, there is little benefit in stockpiling large amounts of Pyroblossom or Niter unless you specifically plan to rely on those explosive defenses.
