Official description

An edible crop with some nutrients. Gives grains when gathered.

Overview

Wild Wheat is one of the most basic food sources in Ratopia. It grows scattered across the Grassland biome and can be gathered for a steady early-game supply of Grain. Because it appears naturally, it is often the first renewable food players can rely on before moving to organized farming.

A single A_Ratizen needs 1.44 Grain worth of nutrition per day, and one Wild Wheat plant can feed about 2.7 A_Ratizen. This makes it a useful stopgap source for keeping the settlement supplied while expanding infrastructure. For larger-scale production, however, Small Garden and Grain Farm become necessary, since wild growth alone is not enough to support a growing population.

Wild Wheat can also appear after rain on natural dirt tiles, and it may grow in dense patches in some areas, including places behind the Great Tree. Checking these spots after rainfall can provide a useful boost to food gathering without any construction cost.

Besides being eaten directly as Grain, Wild Wheat is also an important ingredient in the food and drink chain. It can be processed in a Brewery to make Beer, or refined in a Grinder into Flour, which can then be turned into Bread in a Bakery. This gives Wild Wheat value well beyond basic sustenance, since it supports both raw food consumption and more advanced production lines.

  • Gather Wild Wheat early to stabilize food production before farms are established.
  • Watch Grassland and natural dirt tiles after rain for new growth.
  • A single plant provides enough food for roughly 2.7 A_Ratizen.
  • Use it directly as Grain, or process it into Beer, Flour, and Bread for higher-tier food needs.
