Overview

Bread is a consumable item that improves food security and helps a city support a larger population. It also reduces the number of times Ratizens leave their work to eat, which in turn improves overall work efficiency. Because of this, Bread is especially useful in the early game, when keeping production lines running smoothly matters a lot.

Using Bread early can be profitable, even before a city becomes large; the source notes that it can be worth around 10 Pia per Ratizen per day in the early stages. Bread is one of several consumables that lower food consumption, alongside Pottery and Gum. These items are easy to benefit from immediately, but they also have a downside: because they reduce the number of meals consumed, it becomes harder to trigger buffs from high-quality meals. In terms of maximum theoretical efficiency, Bread, Pottery, and Gum are eventually no longer needed, but in practice Bread can still make management easier all the way to the end because it reduces travel and eating overhead for Ratizens who would otherwise have to leave their jobs to find better food.

  • Bread is a strong early- and mid-game stability item for cities that need more reliable labor uptime.
  • It helps increase the population a city can sustain by easing food pressure.
  • It is useful for reducing interruptions at workplaces, especially when workers would otherwise spend time traveling to eat.
  • If you are optimizing only for theoretical late-game efficiency, Bread becomes less necessary.
  • If you want simpler management and fewer food-related disruptions, keeping Bread in the supply chain remains practical.
