Overview

The Golden Scythe is a tool obtained at the end of the Quarry Mine from the statue of the Grim Reaper. It is an upgraded version of the standard Scythe, designed to make clearing grass and harvesting hay much more effective than the basic tool.

Compared to the regular Scythe, the Golden Scythe has a larger swing radius and is more likely to cut all of the grass within that area. This makes it notably faster for clearing large patches of grass, especially when the goal is to collect as much hay as possible from a single sweep. Each swipe also has a 75% chance to harvest hay from grass, up from the standard 50% chance, so it is much better suited for stocking up on hay before winter or before expanding livestock operations. In addition to its farming utility, it inflicts 13 damage, a major increase over the standard Scythe’s 1–3 damage, giving it some combat usefulness even though it is still primarily a farming tool.

Because of its wider cutting area, the Golden Scythe is especially efficient in densely packed grass or large fields where multiple tiles can be struck at once. Players looking to preserve time and tool swings will generally find it much better than the normal Scythe for routine farm maintenance. Its improved hay yield also makes it a practical choice when managing animals, since it helps convert wild grass into stored feed more reliably.

The Golden Scythe is not the strongest scythe in the game, however. The Iridium Scythe becomes available once the player has obtained Farming Mastery, and it surpasses the Golden Scythe as the top scythe upgrade. Until then, the Golden Scythe remains the best scythe available and a significant improvement over the starting tool.
