unit-mace

Overview

Mace is a heavy-tier ground combat unit that appears as a durable, short-range flamethrower mech. It was originally introduced as Titan and later renamed Mace; its role is to close with enemy forces and spray powerful streams of flame at nearby targets. Unlike most flamethrower units, Mace’s weapons can damage both ground and air targets, making it uniquely flexible in dealing with mixed enemy compositions.

Across updates Mace has been buffed and adjusted several times: its health has been steadily increased (from around 460 at introduction to mid-500s in later builds), its speed and item capacity were raised, and its twin flamethrowers were reworked so the unit now fires two streams. In modern builds each weapon deals 74 damage per hit with a firing pattern of 2x 1.36 shots per second; the net DPS remained similar through one major rebalance but the higher per-hit damage improves performance versus armored targets and allows it to one-shot some light units. The unit’s range and fire-rate have been tweaked in several patches (range was shortened and later restored in various builds), and it no longer requires the old Titan Mech Factory for production.

Although Mace looks like a classic incendiary brawler, it is always immune to burning itself — a property it shares with a small number of other units. Earlier descriptions emphasized “streams of flame”; later builds altered wording to “fires streams of flame at enemy targets,” reflecting its targeting of both air and ground. Its flamethrower is notable among flame weapons for being able to hit airborne units, unlike many other flamethrowers.

Practical notes and strategy:

  • Mace is bulkier and tougher than typical tier-2 non-naval units, making it effective at sustaining fights and breaking through light defenses. Its high single-hit damage favors punching through armored targets compared with purely high-rate flamers.
  • Its effective close-range role means it struggles against long-range, high-damage turrets such as Lancer, Ripple, and Fuse. Engaging those from range or focusing on soft targets is advisable.
  • Large walls will absorb its piercing component and can protect fragile turrets during its approach; placing heavy splash or long-range defenses counters Mace before it reaches effective range.
  • Compared to units like Atrax, which can walk over walls and create persistent area damage, Mace is less suited to chewing through base interiors — it excels in straightforward skirmishes and confrontations where its air-capable flames matter.
  • When fielding Mace as an attacker, beware of swarms that can harass support or distract it; conversely, using long-range splash defenses or high single-shot turrets (Scorch, Lancer, Salvo equivalents) is effective against incoming Maces.
  • Because of past and present stat changes, expect slightly different performance across versions: the unit’s designers have shifted between higher rate/lower damage and lower rate/higher damage models while keeping overall DPS roughly comparable.
