Gebruikt een groot aantal centrifuges om de isotoop uranium-235 te concentreren uit natuurlijk voorkomend uranium (een proces dat isotopenscheiding wordt genoemd). Het resulterende product is splijtbaar uranium, dat kan worden onderworpen aan een kettingreactie in een kernreactor.
