Augur (Everdark Sovereign)

Boss type
Everdark Sovereign

Overview

Augur (Everdark Sovereign) is the Everdark Sovereign variant of the Augur Nightlord encountered in Nightreign Expeditions. Everdark Sovereigns are time-limited, enhanced versions of standard Nightlords that appear on a weekly rotation; they possess increased HP, stronger attacks, and altered or additional phases compared to their normal forms. Players may only face an Everdark Sovereign after they have already defeated that Nightlord’s standard version in a normal expedition. Everdark encounters are not available in offline play.

The Everdark Augur appears as part of the Everdark Sovereign rotation alongside other bosses such as Tricephalos, Gaping Jaw, Sentient Pest, Equilibrious Beast, Darkdrift Knight, and Fissure in the Fog. Like other Everdarks, defeating Augur grants Sovereign Sigils used at the Collector Signboard to purchase exclusive Relics, Garbs, Chalices and other rewards; a first-time victory awards a larger Sigil bonus.

The Augur Everdark fight is built around a two-stage encounter. The initial stage mimics the Augur raid template with lower HP and a reduced moveset: it uses a splashing wave attack and a dash strike and lacks the attackable tentacles or jellyfish present in other forms. Slaying this initial Augur spawns a legendary, pre-upgraded weapon tied to the Nightfarer who dealt the killing blow — the weapon arrives at +3 and carries the unique Storm Ruler skill. Shortly after the Augur falls, the true Everdark sovereign (the empowered Maris encounter in files that pair Augur with Maris mechanics) descends and begins the second, far more dangerous phase.

Storm Ruler becomes the centerpiece of the Phase 2 strategy. The skill fires horizontal beams on quick inputs and can be charged to unleash a massively stronger vertical wave after a full charge (about five seconds). Charging restores FP but slows movement and stamina recovery; when fully charged the player gains a persistent blue aura and the next skill use delivers the vertical wave capable of dealing very high single-hit damage. Storm Ruler deals hybrid physical/magic damage and has exceptional range, allowing players to strike the Everdark form even when it drifts across the arena.

Everdark Augur’s Phase 2 attacks include homing bubbles that adhere to the ground and explode for magic damage, a Sleep-building aura when it curls and levitates, orbiting orbs that fire lasers, and large slow tidal waves at lower HP thresholds. Important interactions with Storm Ruler: its projectiles can destroy bubbles midair, interrupt the Sleep buildup when fully charged, and destroy orbiting orbs — removing all orbs causes the boss to stagger and become vulnerable for several seconds.

Practical notes and strategy:

  • Prioritize obtaining and using the legendary +3 weapon with Storm Ruler once Phase 2 begins; this skill is the most effective damage option against the Everdark form.
  • Equip Relics that increase Skill Attack Power, Physical Attack Power, or Magic Attack Power, since Storm Ruler deals mixed damage. Relics that boost attack after defeating certain encounters or with specific weapon-class bonuses pair particularly well with the unique weapon.
  • Choose Shifting Earths and other passives that improve team survivability and uptime. Noklateo’s auto-revive and Blessings that increase max HP are especially useful in prolonged fights; some Shifting Earths that rely on frost or environmental advantages are less relevant.
  • Team composition: classes with reliable healing/revival (Revenant, Guardian) and characters whose Ultimates provide team-wide benefits (Raider, Ironeye/Wylder) are highly recommended. Guardians can deflect projectiles with Whirlwind; Revenants bring strong sustain and Lightning damage utility in Phase 1. Executors and heavy melee Ultimates should be used carefully due to large hitboxes.
  • Destroying the orbiting orbs with Storm Ruler projectiles at half HP gives a significant opening; fully-charged shots are necessary to interrupt certain mechanics like Sleep buildup.
  • Maintain spacing to avoid getting caught in tidal waves and use charging windows of Storm Ruler to counter projectile patterns.

Everdark Sovereigns are flagged in the Expeditions UI with a purple highlight and use a distinct encounter pool for end-of-night bosses. Defeating Augur contributes Sovereign Sigils and unlocks access to a powerful "Dark Night" Relic at the Collector Signboard. The Everdark Sovereign system debuted in June 2025 and continues to rotate its roster, offering repeatable high-difficulty content for Nightreign players.
