Overview
The
Mega is a support flying unit that appears on the air support branch of Mindustry. It serves as a mobile repair, builder and cargo platform rather than a front-line combat craft. Megas are most often deployed to repair and rebuild structures, mine resources when ordered, transport containers and ground units as a payload, and perform quick on-site construction or recovery via command-mode orders.
Megas mount two primary pairs of healing/laser arms: one pair fires slower, stronger repair lasers that restore nearby blocks, while the other pair fires faster, weaker lasers. Both weapon pairs use LaserBoltBulletType projectiles with an effective range of about 22.75 tiles (22–22.2 in some builds) and identical projectile speed and lifetime. The first pair deals 10 damage per shot and provides 5.5% repair to blocks; the second pair deals 8 damage and provides 3% repair. Rotation speed for their weapons is high, and firing rates are rapid (the slower pair fires at 2×1.25 shots/sec; the faster pair at 2×2 shots/sec). Megas have modest health and low armor, so they must avoid concentrated anti-airfire and piercing or splash attacks that can wipe groups quickly.
As a support unit, the
Mega excels in multiple roles. With a large build-speed multiplier (260% build speed cited), groups of Megas can rapidly complete construction tasks or rebuild damaged defenses almost instantly. Their healing lasers keep structures and friendly units alive during siege or while repairing breaches. When given mining orders, Megas can collect titanium and other resources; they can also pick up Containers and Liquid Containers to greatly expand their carrying capacity. Containers enable transport of multiple item types and provide more capacity per item than carrying items directly. Megas can airdrop ground units and blocks using their payload slot, allowing delivery of powerful ground units (for example
Fortress or
Spiroct) into enemy territory. Payload loading/unloading is available in command mode, enabling hit-and-run drops and quick retrieval of damaged attackers to
Repair Point clusters.
Megas are relatively cheap for their utility compared to heavier support flyers and are indispensable in mid- to late-game survival and PvP base defense because they can rebuild and heal structures; enemy Megas must be destroyed rather than distracted to prevent rebuilding. They will flee from enemies when threatened, and their movement is somewhat unpredictable when attacking bases or operating without a core to repair.
Practical notes and interactions:
- Use groups of Megas to rapidly finish wall lines or rebuild breached defenses; their high build speed and repair output synergize with
Repair Point clusters. - Equip Megas to carry Containers when transporting resources between bases;
Container pickup/rebuild behavior lets a
Mega swap containers in transit to maintain flow. - Use payload-loading to air-drop heavy ground units into enemy territory or to extract damaged ground units for repair via Repair Points.
- Beware of splash and piercing enemies such as
Vela and
Corvus; those attacks can destroy multiple Megas at once despite the units’ healing output. - Against hostile Megas, prioritize destroying them to prevent enemy repairs and rebuilds; combat-focused flyers like the
Zenith or high-tier units from an
Exponential Reconstructor will dispatch them efficiently. - Megas can now execute a wide set of commands: repair, rebuild, assist player, mine, load/unload payloads and loop unit transfer, making them highly scriptable in command-mode strategies.
- Megas cannot carry themselves even though their payload area matches their size.
