Cactus Flower

Cactus Flower is a plant product gathered from cactus in the desert biome. It serves many of the same roles as Petals, but it is generally more efficient to produce from cactus because it can be obtained in larger amounts through harvesting. It is one of the main renewable materials tied to desert farming and cactus management.

Unlike Petals, Cactus Flower cannot be used to extract oil or for use at an Apiary, so the two items are not interchangeable in every recipe or process. Cactus Flower is also used directly in crafting at several stations: 1 Cactus Flower makes 2 Medicine at the Pharmacy, 2 Cactus Flower makes 4 Dye at the Dye Workshop, 1 Cactus Flower plus 1 Myrrh makes 4 Soap at the Perfumery, and 3 Cactus Flower plus 3 Glass Bottle makes 3 Perfume at the Perfumery.

Cactus Flower can be collected from cacti growing in the desert biome. If the block holding a cactus is mined, or if the cactus is harvested repeatedly, seeds can be recovered. Those seeds can then be planted in a Small Garden, allowing Cactus Flower to be cultivated rather than only gathered from natural desert growth. This makes cactus farms a practical way to secure a steady supply for medicine, dye, soap, and perfume production.

A later update also added the ability to process Cactus Flower into Honey, expanding its uses beyond the original crafting set. Because of its overlap with Petals and its more efficient production from cactus, Cactus Flower is best treated as a specialized desert resource: useful for several important recipes, but not a complete replacement for other flower-based materials.
