Petals

Petals are an early-game resource with a wide range of uses. They can be gathered from the start of a playthrough and serve as both a construction material and a crafting ingredient, which makes them one of the more broadly applicable plant-based items in Ratopia.

As a building material, Petals are used in several early and mid-tier structures: Silviculture Post, Florist, Apiary, Monument's Base, the shrines for Rat, Rabbit, Snake, and Rooster, and the Maypole. This gives them relevance in both production chains and settlement development, especially when expanding into agriculture, religion, or decorative infrastructure.

Petals are also used in multiple crafting recipes, most notably Oil production at the Grinder. They are part of the inputs for the Apiary as well, alongside Beeswax, Honey, and Bee. In the pharmacy chain they can be used to make Medicine, and they are listed among the materials associated with the Dye Workshop and Perfumery.

Although Petals have many listed uses, production based on them is often inefficient. Oil is the main case where they remain relevant, since it is in high demand and can be made from Petals early on. Even so, alternative sources become available later, and Oil itself is cheap enough that importing it can be a practical option.

The same is true for other Petal-based products. Dye and Soap are easier to produce from Cactus Flower, so Petals are usually less attractive for those chains. Because of this, Petals are most useful in the early game and lose much of their importance once trade is established in the mid game and beyond.
