Overview

Dirt is a basic early-game item found in large quantities in the grassland biome, making it one of the most reliable resources available from the start of a new colony. Because it is so common, players can gather it steadily without needing advanced tools or travel, and it often becomes one of the first materials used to support expansion.

Its main role is as a building and crafting resource. Dirt is required for many constructions, and it is also used to make Dirt Block, which gives it an important place in early base building and structural development. While it may seem like a plain material, it is one of the essentials that keeps a settlement progressing before more refined resources become available.

Dirt is also used as a material in the production chain for Pottery, making it more than just a construction filler. It can additionally be used to produce Leaves and Petals, but these uses are relatively inefficient, and since those items can also be imported, there is usually little need to rely on Dirt for them unless local production is specifically desired.

The natural Dirt block has very low durability, at 30. With Strength level 5 or higher, it can be broken in two hits, which makes it easy to harvest in bulk. This low toughness helps explain why Dirt is so easy to collect early on and why it is commonly used for quick construction and terrain modification.

  • Can also be used for Leaves and Petals, though this is not very efficient
