Sawmill

A place to process logs. Produces lumber and sticks.
Overview
The Sawmill is one of the first production buildings you will want to construct. It turns logs into the basic materials used throughout early development, making it a key part of the first settlement’s supply chain. In practice, it is the main source of

The Sawmill can process several different kinds of logs:
- 1 Log → 4 Wooden Stick
- 1 Jungle Log → 6 Wooden Stick
- 1 Log → 2 Lumber
- 1 Thorn Log → 3 Lumber
Each job takes 200 work, so the building is not especially fast compared to how often these materials are consumed. Because of that, the Sawmill tends to become a bottleneck early on if you rely on it alone.
Lumber is especially important because it is used as a building material for many other facilities. Wooden Stick is also widely consumed as construction material and as an ingredient for Tools. Since both products are in steady demand from the start of the game, it is usually worth setting up multiple Sawmills early rather than waiting until shortages appear.
A practical early-game setup is to have at least two Sawmills running as soon as possible. With an early population of around 30 rats, it is common to assign about 3 to 4 workers to Sawmills so that production can keep up with construction needs. This helps prevent delays when expanding your base or unlocking new structures that depend on wood-based materials.
In short, the Sawmill is not a flashy building, but it is one of the foundations of early progression. If Lumber or Wooden Stick production falls behind, nearly every part of your development slows down, so keeping Sawmill output ahead of demand is one of the simplest ways to maintain momentum.
