Overview

Butchery is a processing building used to convert hunted animals into usable materials. It takes live catch and turns it into food or crafting resources, with different recipes for different creatures. In practice, it is one of the main ways to turn hunting output into early-game supplies, especially when rabbits are being gathered in large numbers.

Its production list includes several conversions: one Rabbit can be processed into 5 Raw Meat in 700 work, 4 Leather in 500 work, or 4 Bone in 500 work. A Frog produces 4 Raw Meat in 500 work, while an Armadillo yields 8 Leather in 800 work. This makes Butchery useful both for food production and for material recovery, depending on what the colony is hunting.

Because rabbit hunting can outpace processing, Butchery often becomes a bottleneck in the early game. One Butchery handles only a little over 2 rabbits per day at the start, so if a Hunter's Hut is bringing in rabbits continuously, the queue can back up quickly. A nearby Storage also helps hunters work more efficiently; with storage placed close to the Rabbit Hole, hunters can bring in about 4 rabbits per day from a single hole. As a result, a practical guideline is to build around two Butchery buildings for each Rabbit Hole when rabbit farming is running smoothly.

  • If rabbit meat is piling up, add more Butchery buildings rather than letting hunting idle.
  • Place Storage close to the hunting area so hunters spend less time traveling and more time gathering.
  • Match the number of Butchery buildings to the expected hunting rate; one unit is not enough for heavy rabbit collection.
  • Use the recipe that fits your immediate needs: Raw Meat for food, Leather for crafting, and Bone when you need that material from rabbits.
