Endgame Guide: Moon Lord, Celestial Towers & Drops

Endgame in Terraria is the phase after defeating the major pre‑Lunar bosses (Plantera and Golem) and completing the subsequent content that leads to the Lunar Events and Moon Lord. It represents the game's ultimate progression loop: final bosses, the best gear and weapons, repeatable events, and optional late‑game challenges that define what "completed" looks like.

When endgame begins

  • Defeating Plantera opens the Jungle Temple and unlocks the Golem fight, slows biome spread (Crimson/Corruption/Hallow) to half speed, and adds powerful Solar Eclipse enemies and Dungeon late‑game spawns.
  • Defeating the Golem is commonly considered the true start of late game: it drops key materials (Beetle materials, Sun Stone, Picksaw, etc.), unlocks Cultist spawns at the Dungeon (which start the Lunar Events), increases Old One's Army tier, and causes Martian Probes to spawn randomly (triggering Martian Madness if conditions meet).

Major endgame goals and sequence

  • Clear Dungeon, Temple, Underground Jungle and finish associated bosses (Golem, Plantera, Empress of Light and Duke Fishron are optional but recommended before the Lunar Events).
  • Complete the Pumpkin Moon and Frost Moon (unlocked by Ectoplasm drops) for unique powerful weapons and rewards.
  • Complete Martian Madness (obtainable content and drops from the event) and Old One's Army Tier 3 content for high‑end loot and vanity/mounts.
  • Trigger and defeat the Lunatic Cultist at the Dungeon entrance to spawn the Celestial Towers (the pillars). Destroying the four Celestial Towers summons the Moon Lord, the final boss.
  • Defeat all Celestial Pillars and Moon Lord to mark the canonical end: Bestiary completion and Universal Pylon access.

The Lunar Events and Moon Lord

  • Lunatic Cultist drops the crafting station required for endgame Luminite gear. After the Cultist is defeated, the four Celestial Towers (Solar, Vortex, Nebula, Stardust) permanently spawn until each pillar is destroyed.
  • Pillars drop fragments specific to each class; choosing the pillar that favors your class makes the early pillar rewards more useful (Solar for melee, Vortex for ranged, Nebula for magic, Stardust for summoner).
  • Destroy the four pillars to summon Moon Lord. Moon Lord and the Lunar Events are the final combat content: defeating them repeatedly yields the best endgame materials and best-in-slot weapons and armor.

Endgame gear and builds

  • Luminite-tier armor and weapons are the pinnacle of offensive power. Each Luminite armor set is the best offensive set for its class, except Solar Flare armor, which provides high defense and offensive bonuses for melee.
  • Valhalla Knight's Breastplate remains viable for ranged users and summoners who do not gain the defensive stats from their class armors.
  • Sentry-focused hybrid sets are viable due to highly powerful endgame sentry weapons.
  • The Zenith is the ultimate melee weapon, constructed by combining multiple swords gathered from across the game and endgame bosses; obtaining it effectively trivializes most content.
  • Summoner endgame options (e.g., Stardust Dragon Staff and Terraprisma) remain attractive because they allow hands-off combat and excellent sustained DPS; they are convenient for players who wish to transition to building or farming while still dealing damage.
  • Typical recommended progression before the Lunar Events: Plantera → Temple / GolemEmpress of Light (optional but yields Terraprisma/related drops) → Duke Fishron (optional) → complete events (Pumpkin/Frost/Martian) → Lunatic Cultist → Celestial Pillars → Moon Lord.
  • Defensive preparations for Moon Lord: aim for high effective defense (many guides recommend a total defense above ~80 for survivability) and survivability‑focused accessories (damage reduction, shields, damage mitigation accessories). Use class‑appropriate accessories and mobility/regen options to handle Moon Lord mechanics.
  • For Pillars and Lunar Events, focus on crafting and using weapons tailored to the pillar type when possible to speed clear times.

Repeatable endgame content and farming

  • Moon Lord, Celestial Towers, Pumpkin Moon, Frost Moon, Martian Madness and Old One's Army are repeatable sources of late‑game loot, mounts, vanity, and vanity drops.
  • Post‑Moon Lord, many world manipulation tools (e.g., Drill Containment Unit) let you reshape oceans and biomes; the Cavern mushroom spread under jungle often creates large mushroom biomes useful for farming Duke Fishron materials.
  • Treasure Bags (Expert/Master mode) and boss drops are the primary engines for obtaining endgame accessories, wings, and mounts.

Class notes and playstyle at endgame

  • Melee: Solar Flare armor offers a high‑defense, mobile melee option; Zenith is the endgame melee weapon.
  • Ranged: Stealth and special bonuses on endgame ranged gear produce extreme damage; Valhalla Knight's Breastplate can be worn if defensive bonuses are preferred.
  • Magic: Nebula gear supplies strong magic boosts and utility; Lunar drops augment burst and sustain.
  • Summoner: Stardust and Terraprisma options pair well with whips and sentries; summoner play is convenient for passive farming and excels in many multi‑enemy events.
  • Warrior/Hybrid play: High defense and unique vampiric weapons (e.g., post‑Plantera melee drops) enable tank/hybrid playstyles that can protect teammates or solo sustain in Expert mode.

Optional high‑reward challenges

  • Empress of Light (best attempted after Golem) drops weapons required for some endgame builds but is extremely difficult if fought at daytime.
  • Pumpkin Moon and Frost Moon offer a wealth of unique weapons (Horseman's Blade, Stake Launcher, Raven Staff, etc.) used in Zenith crafting or as final tier weapons themselves.
  • Martian Madness yields unique mounts, hooks, and weapons, and a completed Martian event contributes to 100% endgame checklist.

The end state

  • Once Moon Lord is defeated and all Lunar monsters are cleared, the Bestiary can be completed and the Universal Pylon becomes purchasable from the Zoologist.
  • At true endgame you can obtain every piece of Luminite gear, craft ultimate weapons (including the Zenith), farm mounts and vanity, and repeatedly run events and bosses for drops or world reshaping tools.

This section covers the progression, goals, recommended order, gear expectations, and repeatable content that define Terraria's endgame. Use class‑appropriate pillar fragments, collect Luminite materials from Moon Lord, and pursue events and optional bosses to finish the game's content and obtain the strongest gear.
