Overview

Stakewall is a simple wooden defensive building piece used to form a perimeter around a settlement or to reinforce vulnerable approaches. It is especially useful early in the game, when players need a cheap and quick barrier that can delay hostile creatures and help define safe building space.

Unlike most other wooden construction pieces, Stakewall does not take weather damage from rain, which makes it a practical choice for long-term outdoor fortifications. On level ground, many enemies have trouble jumping over it, so it works well as a deterrent even before stronger defenses are available.

  • Stakewall is best used as a continuous outer wall around bases, farms, and outposts.
  • Because it is a low obstacle, it is more effective when combined with terrain and other structures that limit enemy movement.
  • In swampy areas, it is worthwhile to raise the ground slightly with a hoe before building, since uneven or wet terrain can make placement and defense less reliable.
  • On flat terrain, its low profile still blocks many creatures well enough to buy time for counterattacks or repairs.
