In practice, the Food preparation table is part of the progression that turns the Cauldron from a basic cooking station into a more capable kitchen. The Cauldron itself must be placed on a heat source such as a hearth or other valid fire source, and it can then be upgraded by adding these special nearby structures.

Its main purpose is to support higher-tier food production, including recipes related to feasts, stone oven preparations, and fish-based foods and bait. This makes it especially useful once you start moving beyond simple early-game meals and want access to a broader range of prepared foods.
