Overview

The Stonecutter is a crafting station used to build and repair stone and marble structures in Valheim. Once placed, it also enables certain stone-related constructions that require a nearby Stonecutter to be present. It is part of the building progression after iron has been obtained, and it is placed with the Hammer under the Crafting tab.

To use a Stonecutter for construction, it must be placed close to a Workbench. Like other crafting stations, it must also be indoors and under a roof to function properly. The station itself cannot be upgraded.

The Stonecutter is also used in the production chain for the Forge upgrade Grinding Wheel, by crafting a Sharpening Stone first. This makes it relevant not only for large-scale stone building, but also for advancing forge improvements.

Structures and pieces associated with the Stonecutter include:

  • Hearth
  • Paved road
  • Stone arch
  • Stone floor 2x2
  • Stone pillar
  • Stone stair
  • Stone wall 1x1
  • Stone wall 2x1
  • Stone wall 4x2

Because it unlocks stone construction, the Stonecutter is often one of the first major infrastructure stations set up after iron becomes available. It is especially useful when expanding a base beyond wood, since many of the stronger decorative and structural pieces depend on it.
