Overview

Black marble is a Mistlands building resource used for some of the biome’s most advanced crafting stations, furniture, and heavy structural pieces. It is one of the main stone-like materials added with the late-game progression and is especially associated with Dvergr architecture, Infested Mines, and the remains of giant skeletal creatures in the Mistlands.

Black marble can mainly be mined from Giant Remains in the Mistlands with a Black Metal Pickaxe. It can also be obtained in smaller amounts by destroying Dvergr-built structures, either by mining them directly or by deconstructing them with a Stonecutter. In addition, it can drop as an uncommon loot from Dvergr rogues and Dvergr mages, and it may be found by breaking certain features that spawn in Infested Mines or the Infested Citadel. Like regular stone, Black marble can be transported through portals, making it much easier to move than metal resources.

Its primary use is as a construction material for Mistlands crafting stations and decorative pieces. Black marble is required for the Black Forge, the Eitr Refinery, the Rune Table, the Black Forge Cooler, the Metal Cutter, and the Crafting press, placing it at the center of both weapon and magic progression in the late game. It is also used for several heavy black-marble building parts such as floors, stairs, arches, ledges, columns, and various block sizes, as well as furniture like the black marble bench, black marble table, and black marble throne. The throne also requires Scale Hide, Deer Hide, and Copper, showing how Black marble often appears in high-tier mixed-material recipes.

Common crafting requirements that use Black marble include:

Black marble is also used for multiple heavy building pieces, including 1x1x1, 2x1x1, and 2x2x2 blocks, floors, triangle floors, stairs, quarter spires, pedestals, corner pedestals, cornices, corner cornices, arches, and small and wide columns. These pieces are useful for building durable Mistlands bases and Dvergr-style structures that match the biome’s aesthetic. The material also supports a number of furniture recipes, including the black marble bench, table, and throne, with the throne being one of its most resource-intensive decorative uses.

For players gathering it in the Mistlands, the main practical consideration is access: a Black metal pickaxe is needed to mine Giant Remains efficiently, and Dvergr settlements often contain both opportunities and risks, since damaging their structures can provoke nearby Dvergr. Since Black marble can be carried through portals, it is a convenient late-game building resource once collected.
