Overview

Barley flour is a refined ingredient made by milling barley in a windmill. It is one of the key late-game cooking materials in Valheim, and it is used almost exclusively in advanced food recipes rather than as a direct consumable item.

Its main role is as a base ingredient for stone oven dishes. Most foods that use barley flour must be baked in a stone oven, with the notable exception of Fish Wraps, which are prepared in a cauldron instead. Barley flour is also the defining ingredient in several of the strongest and most useful foods available in the Plains progression.

Barley flour is used in the following recipes:

Because it is a processed resource, barley flour is obtained by refining barley rather than gathering it directly. This makes it part of the production chain that begins with farming barley and ends with high-tier meals. Players who want a steady supply should set up barley cultivation and a windmill near their food production area so the milling process can be done continuously.

Barley flour is especially important because many of the recipes that use it provide durable, endgame-appropriate food buffs. Bread dough is also worth noting as a large-batch ingredient, since it converts a significant amount of barley flour into bread through the cooking chain. In practice, barley flour is one of the resources that marks the transition from simple survival foods to fully developed Plains-era cuisine.
