Overview
Barley is a

Once harvested, barley is mainly used as a processing ingredient. It can be milled in a windmill to produce barley flour, which is a major cooking ingredient in higher-tier foods. It is also used directly in crafting and cooking, including

Barley is one of the crops that define Plains farming, alongside flax. Fuling villages are the safest and most reliable place to stockpile it, since their small farms often provide a ready harvest, and their nearby chests can contain more. A mature barley plant gives two barley, so every wild or planted patch is effectively doubled on harvest.
Practical notes:
- Barley can be planted only in the Plains, using a cultivator on cultivated ground.
- A fully grown barley plant yields 2 barley.
- It can be found in Fuling village farms, Plains chests, and occasionally by fishing on Plains shores.
- Harvesting with weapons is possible: fully grown barley drops two when damaged, and area attacks such as
Stagbreaker,
Iron Sledge, or polearm secondary attacks can be used to clear crops quickly.
- Weapon harvesting does not grant Farming skill experience and does not trigger bonus yield chance, so hand-harvesting or using a scythe is better for maximum farming efficiency.
- Barley can be used to produce barley flour in a windmill.
- It is used in crafting and cooking recipes such as fire resistance barley wine base and Yggdrasil Porridge.
- It can be used as food for lox and chickens.
- Barley is also used in straw furniture crafting together with flax.
