Overview

Flax is a Plains crop and crafting material used primarily to produce Linen Thread. It is usually found in small cultivated plots around Fuling villages, often in quantities of about 15–20 planted stalks ready to harvest. These village farms more commonly contain Barley, so finding Flax may require checking several villages. It also appears in some village chests.

Flax can be replanted with a Cultivator on cultivated ground, but it only grows in the Plains biome. A single planted Flax yields 2 Flax when fully harvested, and the crop takes roughly 4000–5000 seconds to mature, or about 2.22–2.78 in-game days. Fully grown Flax can be harvested by damaging it with weapons, and wide-area attacks such as Stagbreaker, Iron Sledge, or the Atgeir secondary attack are very effective for collecting it quickly. These methods do not consume the crop, but they do not give Farming skill experience and do not trigger extra-yield chances, so hand harvesting or using a scythe can be better if maximizing returns matters.

Because Flax is rarer than Barley, it is worth replanting some as soon as it is found and keeping a secure farm elsewhere. Like other cultivated crops, it can be grown in any prepared soil, but the biome restriction still applies, so it must be maintained in the Plains to grow properly.

Flax is also part of several important progression chains:

  • It is processed in a spinning wheel to make Linen Thread.
  • It is used in certain furniture and crafting recipes that require Linen Thread or cloth-based materials.
  • It can be given to Lox as food, and it can also be used to breed and expand a Lox herd.

In practice, Flax is one of the key late-game Plains resources: the initial stock from Fuling villages is often the only seed stock a player has, so protecting the first harvest matters. Once a farm is established, it becomes a stable source for textile production and advanced gear materials.
