Wood

Wood is a basic crafting material used throughout Valheim for building, crafting, and fuel production. It weighs 2 and stacks up to 50, making it one of the most common and versatile resources in the game.

Wood can be gathered from several early-game sources, including loose branches on the ground, trees and tree stumps, and as a drop from Greydwarfs. It is especially important in the Meadows and Black Forest, where many starter structures and tools depend on it, and it remains useful well into later progression because so many recipes continue to require it.

Wood is used for a wide range of early and mid-game crafting recipes, including weapons, shields, tools, and arrows such as the Crude Bow, Flint Axe, Wood Shield, Wood Tower Shield, Torch, Hammer, and Hoe. It is also a core construction material: opening the build menu with the Hammer lets you use Wood for many wooden structures and building pieces. In addition, Wood can be turned into Coal at a Charcoal Kiln.
