Overview

Bronze atgeir is a bronze-age polearm that can be crafted at the Forge once the player has advanced beyond the earliest tools. It is a two-handed weapon with long reach and strong crowd-control potential, combining piercing attacks with a sweeping secondary strike that can stagger most creatures. Compared with many early weapons, it rewards spacing and timing rather than close-quarters trading.

The weapon’s primary attack is a three-hit combo. The third hit deals double damage, so maintaining the full chain gives the best output. Its alternate attack is a wide 360-degree sweep that can hit up to six targets around the player. This attack does not suffer from damage falloff across its targets, making it especially effective when surrounded or when clearing groups of weaker enemies. The secondary attack is also enough to stagger most creatures, which makes the Bronze atgeir unusually useful for controlling enemy movement.

Its core statistics improve with upgrades:

  • Quality 1: Pierce 45, durability 125
  • Quality 2: Pierce 51, durability 175
  • Quality 3: Pierce 57, durability 225
  • Quality 4: Pierce 63, durability 275

Crafting and upgrading require a Forge, with the weapon’s repair level remaining 1 across all qualities. The initial craft uses 10 Wood, 8 Bronze, and 2 Leather Scraps. Later upgrades cost 4 Bronze, 8 Bronze, and 12 Bronze respectively. The weapon weighs 2.5, and like many polearms it carries a -5% movement speed penalty.

Attack properties are also notable for stamina and control. The primary combo costs 12 stamina and has a 3x sneak attack multiplier. Its final hit has increased knockback. The secondary attack costs 24 stamina, also has a 3x sneak attack multiplier, and strikes in a broad arc with high stagger power and very strong knockback. In practice, this makes the Bronze atgeir a strong choice for players who want to keep enemies at bay while still dealing reliable piercing damage.

Historically, the atgeir is a weapon name associated with saga literature rather than archaeology, which fits its role in Valheim as a stylized polearm drawn from Viking-inspired fantasy rather than a strict reconstruction.
