Black Metal Shield

The Black metal shield is a shield crafted from fine wood, black metal, and chains. It is one of the higher-tier shields in Valheim and can be upgraded to increase both block armor and durability. At quality 1 it provides 78 block armor and 200 durability, rising to 84 and 250 at quality 2, and 90 and 300 at quality 3.

Its upgrade costs are:

• Quality 1: 10 Finewood, 8 Black Metal, 5 Chain
• Quality 2: 10 Finewood, 4 Black metal, 2 Chain
• Quality 3: 20 Finewood, 8 Black metal, 4 Chain
• Quality 4: 40 Finewood, 20 Black metal, 11 Chain

When crafting, the shield can be customized with several preset styles and colors by clicking the style button beneath the item name in the crafting window. The chosen design cannot be changed afterward, so the appearance should be selected carefully before crafting. The available styles include seven variants, ranging from the base look to color combinations such as red and white, blue and white, black and red, blue and yellow, black and white, and green and yellow.
