Overview

The Bronze buckler is an early bronze-age round shield used for blocking and parrying in Valheim. It is one of the first metal shields available once bronze-tier crafting becomes possible, and it improves both survivability and active defense compared to basic leather gear.

It can be crafted at a Forge and upgraded several times. Its upgraded versions increase block armor and durability, while the crafting costs shift toward more bronze and more wood at higher quality. At maximum quality, the shield reaches 28 block armor and 300 durability.

  • Quality 1: 16 block armor, 200 durability, crafted from 10 Bronze and 4 Wood, Forge level 1
  • Quality 2: 22 block armor, 250 durability, crafted from 5 Bronze and 1 Wood, Forge level 2
  • Quality 3: 28 block armor, 300 durability, crafted from 10 Bronze and 2 Wood, Forge level 3

The total cost to fully upgrade it is 25 Bronze and 7 Wood.

Because it is a buckler rather than a tower shield, its strength lies in timed blocks and parries rather than passive guarding. This makes it a strong choice for players who want to stay aggressive in close combat while still having a reliable defensive option. Its relatively low material cost also makes it practical for the stage of progression when bronze equipment first becomes available.

The Bronze buckler’s place in progression is straightforward: it bridges the gap between primitive shields and later metal defenses, giving players a noticeable upgrade in block performance without demanding rare resources.
