Serpent Scale Shield

A sturdy shield of overlapping scales.
Overview
The Serpent scale shield is a tower shield crafted from fine wood, iron, and serpent scales. It offers strong blocking for its material tier, with block armor comparable to a silver-tier shield while using iron as the metal component. Unlike round shields and bucklers, it cannot parry, but it is built for steady, reliable defense against incoming physical damage.
Its standout feature is pierce resistance, which stacks with other sources of pierce resistance. This makes it especially effective against enemies that rely on piercing attacks, such as spear-wielding Fulings, seekers, and Morgens, and it remains useful well into later biomes. It is also a strong option once iron becomes available, since it provides high defensive value without requiring silver.
The shield does have the usual tower-shield drawback of reduced mobility: it lowers movement speed by 10%. Because of this, it is best used when you want to hold position and absorb damage rather than fight with aggressive parries. In practice, it is one of the more dependable choices for players who prefer to block heavy hits instead of timing counters.
