Serpent Scale

Serpent scale is a resource dropped by Serpents. It is mainly associated with ocean combat, since Serpents are the only reliable source and their scales sink in deep water instead of floating to the surface.

Because the scales sink, the easiest way to gather them is to kill Serpents in shallow water, or to drag them toward land before finishing them off. An Abyssal harpoon is especially useful for this, since it lets players pull a Serpent closer to shore where the drops can be recovered more easily.

• Serpent scales do not reliably stay accessible after a kill in deep water.
• Hunting Serpents near the coast greatly improves the chance of recovering the drop.
• Using an Abyssal Harpoon to tow a Serpent ashore is a common way to secure the scales.
