Overview

Fenring is an aggressive werewolf-type creature found in Valheim. It is a wolf-like humanoid with glowing eyes, making it easier to spot at a distance. When a Fenring notices a player, it begins a long howling animation before attacking, and during those first few seconds it cannot fight back, giving the player a brief opening to engage it safely.

Fenrings have three main offensive actions: a normal claw swipe, a leap attack, and a howl. The claw swipe covers a 3-meter, 90-degree horizontal arc and deals 85 slash damage. It has a short 3-second cooldown and can be used when the target is very close. There is also a second animation for this attack in which the Fenring lunges forward and bites instead; despite the different animation, it behaves the same and shares the same cooldown. The leap attack is stronger, pouncing on the player and striking with both claws for 95 slash damage. It can be used every 8 seconds when the player is between 5 and 9 meters away, so it is disabled at point-blank range. The howl is mainly used to alert nearby wolves.

Fenrings take continuous damage from silver weapons, making Silver an especially effective choice against them. They are also vulnerable to spirit damage. If a Fenring is parried, it recovers very quickly, so the best response is to attack immediately while it is stunned rather than waiting.

  • Their howl can draw nearby wolves into the fight, so be ready for extra enemies after an encounter begins.
  • Because their opening howl leaves them unable to attack for a short time, this is the safest moment to land the first blows.
  • The leap attack only triggers at mid-range, so staying very close can prevent that move from being used.
  • Fenrings drop wolf fangs and can also drop a Fenring Trophy.
