Overview

Asksvin are aggressive, rideable creatures that can also be tamed and bred. They are large reptilian beasts with a swine-like name origin, and they are one of the more dangerous animals encountered in the Ashlands due to their strong melee attacks and ability to damage both players and structures.

In combat, Asksvin use three close-range attacks. Their bite is a 4.5-meter, 45-degree arc attack with an 8-second cooldown when a player is within 4 meters, dealing 75 blunt, 75 slash, and 50 Chop / Pickaxe damage. Their pounce is a faster 4-second attack used when the target is 3–6 meters away; it covers a 5.5-meter, 45-degree arc and deals 150 blunt, 50 Chop, and 100 Pickaxe damage. The pounce also hits hard against grausten and weaker structures, much like a Lox, and can damage allied creatures. Their headbutt is a rushing attack with a 4-meter reach and 45-degree arc, used every 8 seconds when within 6 meters, dealing 120 blunt and 100 Tier 4 Chop / Pickaxe damage.

Asksvin take no damage from lava both before and after taming, even though they are not immune to fire damage. This makes them especially useful in the Ashlands, where lava is common. When ridden with an Asksvin Saddle, the player cannot attack, but can travel across lava safely without either the rider or the Asksvin taking damage. Tamed Asksvin do not deal friendly fire damage to players, other tamed creatures, or neutral Dvergr.

They can be tamed by feeding them Smoke puffs, Vineberry clusters, or Fiddleheads. Level 3 two-star Asksvin only spawn at night. Like other night-spawned creatures, they will try to leave the active area and despawn during the day if taming has not begun, so they should be trapped in a pen or pit that they cannot escape from, or the taming process should be started quickly. Once taming has begun, they will not despawn.

Asksvin can breed if they are happy and well-fed, there is another Asksvin within 3 meters, and there are no more than 10 Asksvin within 10 meters. They will accumulate love points until pregnancy starts. Pregnancy lasts at least 90 seconds, after which they lay an Asksvin Egg. Egg quality depends on the parent that laid it: a quality 1 egg indicates a 0-star Asksvin, quality 2 indicates a 1-star, and quality 3 indicates a 2-star. If kept near a heat source such as a campfire, an egg hatches into an Asksvin Hatchling in 30 minutes; if the heat source is removed or the egg is picked up, the timer resets. The hatchling then grows into an adult in 50 minutes without needing heat.

Defeating an Asksvin allows the player to loot its drops. Parts for a buildable Asksvin Skeleton can also be found separately in the Ashlands, but they come from destroying existing Asksvin skeletons rather than from killing Asksvin.

  • The word Asksvin is Swedish for “ash swine.”
  • Its plural form is the same as its singular form.
  • “Pickle-Dog” is a common community nickname for Asksvin because of their green, warty appearance.
