Fiddlehead

Fiddlehead is a pickable food item found in the Ashlands, especially inside ruined structures and on the ruined land itself. Each fern yields 3 Fiddleheads when harvested, and the plants respawn after 5 hours. Fiddleheads are not planted crops and cannot be placed by the player.

Unlike many other pickable foods, Fiddleheads grow on a fern bush, but the item itself is not tied to the bush’s survival. The bush has 30 health and can be destroyed, dropping 1-2 Wood, yet the Fiddlehead will still respawn at the same spot later. The bush is weak to Chop damage, resistant to Pierce damage, and immune to Fire, Poison, and Spirit. This makes Fiddleheads reliable for repeat harvesting even in areas where the surrounding vegetation has been cleared.

Fiddleheads can be eaten directly, but they are primarily valuable as a cooking ingredient. They are also used for taming Asksvins and expanding Asksvin breeding.

They are required in the following recipes:

• Mashed Meat: 1 Asksvin Tail, 1 Volture Meat, 1 Fiddlehead
• Spicy Marmalade: 3 Vineberry Cluster, 1 Honey, 1 Fiddlehead
• Scorching Medley: 3 Jotun Puffs, 3 Onion, 3 Fiddlehead
• Sizzling Berry Broth: 3 Sap, 2 Fiddlehead, 2 Vineberry cluster
• Marinated Greens: 3 Sap, 2 Magecap, 2 Fiddlehead, 2 Smoke Puff

Because several Ashlands-tier meals use Fiddleheads, it is worth collecting them whenever you pass through ruined structures. Their long respawn time makes it practical to learn where nearby patches are located and revisit them during regular Ashlands runs.
