Cloudberries

The gold of the forest.
Overview
Cloudberries are a foraged berry found in the
A cloudberry bush will respawn berries if left intact, making it worthwhile to preserve the plant when harvesting. If the ground cover around it is cleared with a hoe, the plant remains in place; if the bush itself is destroyed, it does not grow back. Sources note different respawn timings depending on version, with one reporting a 240-minute regrowth and another a 300-minute respawn. In practical terms, the berry source is slow enough that Plains exploration and careful harvesting are the intended ways to replenish them.
Cloudberries can be eaten directly, but their main value is as a cooking ingredient and for lox management. They are used in several important late-game recipes, including:
Lox Meat Pie
Mead Base: Medium Stamina
- Mead base: Strong stamina
- Mead base: Long lasting stamina
Salad
Plains Pie Picnic
Barley Wine Base: Fire Resistance
They are also used when taming and breeding loxes, making them useful even before they are turned into food. Because of that, Plains expeditions often involve collecting cloudberries in bulk rather than treating them as a simple snack resource.
A few practical notes make them easier to use efficiently:
- Harvest cloudberries without destroying the bush if you want a renewable source.
- Keep a supply reserved for lox taming, since they have both culinary and animal-handling value.
- They are especially important once Plains cooking becomes available, because several high-end recipes require them in combination with other Plains materials.
Despite being a rare wild berry in many other settings, in Valheim they are a common Plains resource and form an important bridge between basic foraging and advanced food preparation.
