Overview

Bronze mace is a one-handed blunt weapon made at the forge in Valheim. It is the bronze-tier upgrade to the Club and is designed for fighting enemies that are vulnerable to blunt damage, especially in the early and midgame. Like other maces, it offers a fast three-hit light attack chain and a slower heavy strike that trades speed for much higher impact and stun.

To unlock the recipe, you must have all crafting materials in your inventory at least once, and the weapon requires a level 1 forge to craft. Its base crafting cost is 4 Wood, 8 Bronze, and 3 Leather Scraps. Bronze mace upgrades continue to use bronze, with the full upgrade path requiring additional bronze at each level.

Combat-wise, the light attack is a three-hit combo; the third hit deals double damage. This makes the weapon reliable for sustained pressure, since the final strike gives the chain a strong damage spike. The heavy attack is a slow overhead/backhand-style swing that deals 2.5x damage and causes stun, making it useful for interrupting enemies or landing a big opening hit. Both attacks also benefit from sneak attack multipliers.

Bronze mace has the following key stats at each quality level:

  • Blunt damage: 35 / 41 / 47 / 53
  • Durability: 200 / 250 / 300 / 350
  • Block power: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45

Other characteristics include weight 2, parry force 12–18, parry bonus 2x, sneak attack 3x, and movement speed -5%. The weapon is light enough to remain practical in close combat while still giving strong stagger potential through blocking and heavy attacks.

Bronze mace is especially effective when used deliberately rather than spammed. Its light combo rewards staying on target so the third hit lands, while the heavy attack is best saved for enemies that can be stunned or for moments when you can safely punish a windup. Since it is a blunt weapon, it fills an important role against armored and resistant foes that are less susceptible to piercing or slash damage.

At higher upgrade levels, the weapon becomes noticeably stronger without changing its core playstyle, making it a dependable mace throughout the Bronze Age and beyond until stronger blunt weapons become available.
