Official description

Sharp and strong, a woodcutter's friend.

Overview

The Iron axe is the fourth craftable axe in the normal progression. It is made at the Forge and can fell any tree in the game, just like the Bronze Axe and the Black Metal Axe. Besides its use as a tool, it also functions as a solid melee weapon, with a shield-friendly blocking profile and enough damage to serve in combat when needed.

Its primary attack is a three-hit combo, with the third strike dealing double damage. The secondary attack is a slower overhead chop that hits harder and is especially useful against tree stumps or other low targets that are awkward to reach with the standard swing. In practice, this makes the Iron axe convenient for clearing wood and finishing off enemies with a heavy follow-up. In the game files, it is sometimes referred to as “Viking Axe.”

Crafting requires 4 Wood, 20 Iron, and 2 Leather Scraps. Upgrading follows the usual Forge progression and increases both durability and combat performance.

  • Quality 1: 175 durability, 60 slash damage, 50 chop damage
  • Quality 2: 225 durability, 65 slash damage, 53 chop damage
  • Quality 3: 275 durability, 70 slash damage, 56 chop damage
  • Quality 4: 325 durability, 75 slash damage, 59 chop damage

The axe has a weight of 2, a defense value of 10, a parry bonus of 2x, a knockback of 50, a backstab bonus of 3x, and a movement speed penalty of 5%. Its parry force also scales with quality, reaching 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 at qualities 1 through 4.

A few practical notes make it especially efficient:

  • It is the first axe that comfortably bridges the gap between tool and weapon.
  • The overhead secondary attack is good for stumps and low-placed wood targets.
  • Since it can harvest every tree type, it remains useful even after stronger weapons become available.
  • Higher upgrade levels improve both its staying power and its ability to contribute in melee fights.
