Overview

The Flint knife is the first knife weapon available in Valheim and a lightweight one-handed weapon that deals both pierce and slash damage. It is built for speed and stealth rather than reach, making it an early-game choice for players who want a quick melee option with strong opening damage.

Its primary attack is a fast three-hit combo, with the final swing dealing 2x damage. This attack uses 4 stamina and has a sneak damage multiplier of 6x. At quality 1 through 4, the primary attack deals 5/5, 6/6, 7/7, and 8/8 pierce/slash damage, with stagger damage increasing from 10 to 16 while knockback stays at 10. The combo completes in about 1.74 seconds, and the last hit also adds extra knockback.

The secondary attack is a leaping stab that uses 12 stamina and deals 3x damage. It also benefits from the same 6x sneak multiplier, making it especially effective when used from stealth or against unaware enemies. At quality 1 through 4, the secondary attack deals 15/15, 18/18, 21/21, and 24/24 pierce/slash damage, with stagger damage rising from 30 to 48 and knockback fixed at 40. Its animation time is about 1.52 seconds.

The Flint knife is notably small and agile: it weighs 0.3, has a defensive value of 2–3, a parry power of 8–12, a parry bonus of 4x, and no movement penalty. It is also a solid blocking weapon for its tier, with block power rising by upgrade level. At quality 1 through 4, durability increases from 200 to 350, and block power increases from 10 to 25.

It is crafted from a simple early-game mix of materials, and each upgrade is inexpensive compared with many other weapons:

The Flint knife is a strong early stealth weapon because of its high sneak bonus and fast attack speed. It rewards aggressive positioning, especially when opening with a leaping stab or striking from behind before an enemy notices you. Its short reach means it performs best at close range, where its quick combo and low stamina cost let you keep pressure on enemies while staying mobile.
