Butcher Knife

The Butcher Knife is a special weapon introduced with the Hearth and Home update and is used to kill tamed animals. It is not a general-purpose combat weapon, and it does not deal damage to wild creatures. In practice, it exists to let the player harvest domesticated livestock without risking accidental damage to the surrounding area or relying on ordinary weapons.

Unlike standard weapons, the Butcher Knife is only effective against tamed creatures, while regular weapons do not damage tamed animals at all. This makes it a dedicated tool for managing animal pens and controlling herd size. If a player wants to cull excess livestock, the Butcher Knife is the intended choice.
