Overview

Copper knife is the second knife available in Valheim, coming after the Flint Knife. It is a one-handed weapon that deals both piercing and slash damage, and it is light enough to carry without any movement penalty. Like other knives, it is built around fast, close-range combat and gains strong value from sneak attacks.

Its primary attack is a three-hit combo. The third strike in the combo deals double damage and has slightly higher knockback, making the full chain especially effective when all hits connect. The alternate attack is a jumping stab that uses more stamina but deals triple damage. Copper knife also has a very strong sneak attack multiplier, dealing 6x damage to unaware enemies, which makes it particularly useful for opening fights from stealth.

The weapon’s stats improve with upgrades. At quality 1, its piercing and slash damage are both 12, and it reaches 15/15 at quality 4. Durability increases from 200 to 350 over the same range, while block value rises from 10 to 25. Its parry bonus is 4x, with a parry force of 8 at base quality and 12 at full upgrade.

  • Primary attack: 3-hit combo
  • Secondary attack: jumping stab
  • Sneak attack multiplier: 6x
  • Weight: 0.3
  • Movement penalty: none
  • Block value: 2–3
  • Parry force: 8–12
  • Parry bonus: 4x

Crafting a Copper knife requires a Forge and increases in cost with each upgrade. The base weapon uses 2 Wood and 8 Copper. Higher quality upgrades add more Copper and Greydwarf eyes, ending at quality 4 with 12 Copper and 24 Greydwarf eyes required for the final upgrade. Repair level remains 1 throughout.

The Copper knife is a practical early-to-mid game melee weapon for players who want speed, stealth, and burst damage. Its combo-based attacks reward precision, and its high sneak multiplier makes it excellent against isolated targets. Since it is still a knife, it works best when you stay aggressive and keep enemies within short range rather than trying to trade at distance.

Copper must be obtained from Copper deposits in the Black Forest and smelted before it can be used to craft the weapon. Copper deposits yield both Copper Ore and Stone when mined, and they do not respawn. They are usually dome-shaped and often extend deep into the ground, so excavating around the deposit can greatly increase the total yield. Copper ore cannot be teleported.
