Fire Arrow

This arrow burns whatever it pierces.
Overview
Fire arrow is an arrow ammunition type used with bows. It combines piercing damage with fire damage, so it can both hit normally and apply a burning damage-over-time effect on impact. Like other fire-based projectiles, it also creates a small amount of light when fired, which can make it useful for briefly illuminating dark areas.
Fire arrows are crafted at a
- Damage values: 11 pierce, 22 fire, with 11 stun and 10 knockback.
- The burning effect is quickly extinguished on wet enemies, greatly reducing its effectiveness.
- Fire arrows are poor choices against creatures that are commonly wet or underwater, such as leeches and serpents, because the fire damage is suppressed too quickly.
- When fired onto dry ground, they provide ambient lighting.
- If the arrow lands on a surface that is already underwater, it is extinguished and will not light the area.
- If it lands on a dry surface and later becomes submerged by waves or rising water, it remains lit.
Because of their fire component, Fire arrows are most valuable against enemies that are not wet and can benefit from the extra damage over time. They are also handy when a player wants to shoot a light source into the distance, though this is situational and does not replace a torch or other dedicated lighting. Since the fire effect is reduced by water, their practical combat value drops sharply in marshes, along shorelines, and in other damp environments.
