Overview

Greydwarf shaman is an aggressive Greydwarf variant found in the Meadows, where it can appear at night after the Elder has been defeated. It is slightly larger than a normal Greydwarf and is easy to recognize by the horns on its head and its bright green eyes. Ordinary shamans have brown bark flecked with green, while 1-star and 2-star variants have progressively bluer bark tones.

Unlike Greydwarfs and Greylings, Greydwarf shamans are not afraid of fire. They can be dangerous in groups because they do not only attack directly, but also support nearby creatures of their faction. Their healing mist restores health over time to allies within range, and due to faction mechanics this can also heal creatures such as Trolls and Stone golems. This makes shamans high-priority targets in mixed encounters.

Their poison attack is their most threatening ability. The shaman creates a conical poison cloud in front of itself that deals 30 poison damage and cannot be blocked. The attack has a long enough wind-up and positioning requirement that it can be prevented by staying very close to the shaman, since the ability only functions within a short mid-range distance from the player. In addition to the poison cloud, the shaman has a short-range hand swipe that deals 14 slash damage.

When fighting one, focus on it early before it has time to keep enemies alive. Two quick arrows or a strong melee hit are often enough to kill a shaman even while it is attempting to heal itself. Fire damage is not effective as a fear tactic, so torches are less useful for driving it off than they are against other early swampless enemies; instead, ranged pressure and burst damage work best. A Fire Arrow or other strong ranged opening can help eliminate it before its healing support becomes a problem.

A few practical points make the fight much easier:

  • Its poison cloud is easiest to avoid by closing the distance or by keeping out of its mid-range attack zone.
  • Its healing mist has a limited duration, so interrupting or killing the shaman quickly is more valuable than trading blows.
  • Because it can heal nearby allies, killing it first reduces the danger of every other enemy around it.
  • Starred shamans are visually distinct and are more dangerous, but they still follow the same basic attack pattern.

For players exploring the Meadows at night, a Greydwarf shaman is often the enemy that turns a minor skirmish into a prolonged fight. Removing it early keeps nearby Greydwarfs, and even larger allied threats, from recovering health and dragging the battle out.
