Leech

Leeches are large hostile creatures found in the Swamp. They are aquatic predators and can move only in water, unable to cross land. Because of this, they usually patrol waterways, making them a common threat in swamp pools, canals, and other flooded areas. They are also members of the undead faction, which explains why they ignore each other.

A Leech attacks by extending its head forward and biting in a short arc at close range. Its bite inflicts Pierce damage and applies Poison, making Poison Resistance Mead effective against it. Regular Leeches are black and red, while one-star Leeches are bright poisonous green and two-star Leeches are purple and bright magenta. The Swamp’s darkness can make their rarity difficult to judge, especially at a distance, so checking their star level up close is often the most reliable way to identify them.

Because Leeches only attack in water, the safest way to deal with them is often from land. If a player falls into deep swamp water, combat becomes much more dangerous because swimming limits the player to fist attacks. A trench or raised path above the waterline can help avoid Leech attacks entirely. Another effective tactic is to lure Leeches to the shore, where they can be attacked safely with spears, bows, or the secondary attack of a mace. Their movement also leaves a visible current in the water, which can help reveal their position even when they are hard to see in the swamp’s darkness.
