Sap Extractor

Sap extractor is a utility building used in the Mistlands to harvest Sap from Ancient Roots. It must be placed directly on an Ancient Root, and the root must be within range of a Workbench in order to build it. The extractor requires Black Metal and a Dvergr Extractor, both of which are tied to Dvergr component crates.

Once installed, a Sap extractor pulls Sap from the root every 60 seconds and can store up to 10 Sap at a time. While it contains Sap, it glows green, making it easy to tell when it is ready to be collected. During extraction, green particles rise from the top and bottom of the device; these particles stop appearing at the top when the extractor becomes full or when the root has been fully drained.

Ancient Roots regenerate Sap much more slowly than the extractor consumes it, so a single root will eventually run dry if left to one extractor. For that reason, it is efficient to move extractors between multiple roots rather than relying on one location indefinitely. When a root is depleted, the extractor still continues at a much slower rate, producing about 1 Sap every 5 minutes.

Some practical notes:

• Bring Black metal to the site by boat, since it cannot be teleported.
• It is useful to scout the Mistlands for an area with many Ancient Roots and nearby flat ground before committing to a base.
• A nearby outpost makes it easier to manage extraction and move materials around.
• The Iron needed for a Blast Furnace can be obtained from Ancient sword or Ancient armor, which helps establish local production in the Mistlands.
• All other materials for a setup can be teleported through a Portal.

Destroying or deconstructing a Sap extractor while it contains Sap does not drop the stored Sap, so it should be emptied before relocation or demolition whenever possible.
