Overview
Poly is a mobile Tier 2 drone unit that automatically rebuilds destroyed structures, repairs and heals allied blocks, and provides light ranged offense with homing healing missiles. It is produced by upgrading a
Mono through an
Additive Reconstructor and serves as a maintenance and support unit that frees the player from routine base upkeep. Polys operate both autonomously and under player command, and their utility scales dramatically when used in groups.
Polys fire two homing missiles per second with moderate inaccuracy; each missile deals 12 damage and restores 5.5% health to allied buildings or units on impact. Their weapon provides both sustain and limited offensive capability, allowing Polys to assist in combat by sniping isolated defenses. They possess a Repair Field ability that enables automated rebuilding and block repair over a radius, making them exceptional at restoring large damaged areas and finishing long build times for advanced structures. Polys flee from enemy units when threatened and have a movement speed tuned for hit-and-run and maintenance tasks.
- Use swarms of Polys to keep walls and turrets intact during engagements; many together dramatically reduce rebuilding time for clustered damage and hunt down damaged blocks efficiently.
- Their individual DPS is low, but they are one of the few T2 units effective at ranged harassment; they can snipe isolated defenses away from
Scatter frontlines if microed correctly. - Polys do not require Repair Points to heal, and their moderate health combined with self/healing support allows effective pull-back micro: retreat damaged Polys and re-engage while other drones continue repairs.
- They can be ordered to repair, rebuild, assist the player and mine from command mode, and if player-controlled can mine
Sand Floor when the "Double-tap/click to mine" option is enabled. - Polys are vulnerable to splash and piercing attacks because they will not flee while busy repairing; avoid exposing clustered Polys to area-of-effect fire.
- In campaign play Polys are encountered relatively late (first appearance on Naval
Fortress) and are not commonly spawned by enemies; they can be overwhelmed by concentrated
Scatter fire if isolated.
History notes: the unit was introduced as the Phantom Builder Drone (assist-only, produced from a Phantom Builder Drone Factory) and was later renamed
Poly, resprited, given its Repair Field and healing missile, made upgradable into the
Mega, and moved to production via
Mono upgrades in the
Additive Reconstructor. Command limit and several behavior and stat tweaks were changed across updates, including movement speed conversion and weapon healing increases.
Miscellaneous:
Poly is the only Tier 2 unit without any armor. Its name contrasts
Mono: the Greek-derived prefix poly- highlights the unit’s multiple functions.
Poly’s healing missiles can be reflected by Phase and
Shielded Walls; when reflected the healed projectile can transfer team ownership and heal the reflecting wall. When spawned on certain teams with AI-building disabled,
Poly may exhibit alternate AI behaviors that keep it at a distance similar to other ranged units.
