Overview
Scepter is a tier-4 ground unit that functions as a heavy defensive gunship-style unit, firing a mix of charged shock cannons and fast secondary guns while providing a powerful Shield Regen Field. It appears as a powerful enemy and as a controllable unit in post‑merge content, based on the earlier Chaos Array boss from Version 5.0.
Scepter has very high health and armor for its class and specializes in lightning/spark damage that can stack against large targets, making it a major threat on defensive frontlines and in guardian encounters.
The unit’s main weapon is a shock cannon that fires charged bullets in bursts (3 shots per round with short intervals). The shock cannon deals high direct damage per shot (around 70 in recent builds) and produces short lightning bolts that deal additional damage along a 3‑tile length; those lightning sparks apply the
Shocked status and can hit multiple times on a single target. The shock cannon also periodically spawns an extra low‑damage shocked bullet every 15 seconds.
Scepter carries two pairs of secondary guns (front and back) that fire faster small bullets for consistent DPS; these secondaries deal 20 damage each after mid‑game adjustments and have higher firing rates. The unit’s effective projectile ranges put the shock cannon at roughly 27 tiles and the secondaries near 18.75 tiles, giving
Scepter good coverage of nearby space.
Scepter provides a passive active ability, the Shield Regen Field, which pulses within a roughly 7.5‑tile radius at 1 pulse per second and restores 25 health per pulse up to a 250 shield capacity. This ability markedly increases the survivability of fragile allied units nearby and accelerates the recovery of Force Field‑style defenses, making
Scepter especially useful for defensive formations and shield‑centric strategies.
Practical notes and strategies:
Scepter’s lightning sparks scale unusually well against single, large, expensive units because multiple spark hits can stack; it wins most matchups among tier‑4 units except against specific counters such as
Sei and
Arkyid. It must be eliminated quickly before it opens a breach in a frontline.- Durable walls (Large
Thorium Walls or multiple Large
Titanium Walls) buy time against
Scepter, but they can still be destroyed rapidly if
Scepter is left unchecked. - Status‑based damage combinations (e.g.,
Blast Compound ammo,
Pooled Cryofluid freezing) are effective because status damage ignores armor.
Fuse turrets and high‑damage turrets like
Mega and
Poly perform well if protected behind walls. - Using water affinity in liquid turrets combined with
Scepter’s lightning makes
Scepter extremely costly for attackers to field; conversely, using water in your own liquid turrets amplifies damage against enemy Scepters.
Scepter is slow and has lower mobility than many offensive units; it excels on defense but is outclassed on offense by more flexible cruisers such as
Zenith,
Arkyid,
Vela, or
Quad.- Shield Regen Field greatly improves the survivability of nearby fragile units (for example, boosting
Zenith effective health significantly) and helps Force Fields regenerate faster. - Historical changes:
Scepter was added in Version 6.0 as a rework of Chaos Array, received multiple balance adjustments over subsequent builds (health, armor, shock cannon damage and range, secondary gun damage and rates, item capacity, movement speed), and had its command limit removed.
Shocked and wet affinity damage no longer pierce armor after mid‑game nerfs. - In lore and design,
Scepter inherits its name from the ornamental staff and shares design lineage with the Chaos Array boss; it served as a notorious guardian in Stained Mountains in early post‑merge versions, producing a pronounced difficulty spike that prompted later guardian swaps.
