Official description

Produces high pressure steam by burning gas.

Overview

Boiler (gas) is a utility building used to turn excess gaseous byproducts into Steam (High). In mid-game petrochemical setups, any remaining output from the Cracking Unit and any leftover output from the production of Rubber Maker need to be removed so the refining chain does not stall when an output buffer fills. Boiler (gas) is a common sink for that overflow, converting it into Steam (High) that can then be consumed by the High-Pressure Turbine and other steam users.

Its main value is that it disposes of byproducts while still producing something useful for the refinery and power system. This makes it preferable to simply venting the material when the goal is to keep production lines running continuously.

  • It is typically used for byproduct disposal from the Cracking Unit and Rubber Maker.
  • It helps prevent refinery idling caused by full output storage.
  • It produces Steam (High), which can be used in refining, power generation, and similar processes through the High-Pressure Turbine.
  • Flaring is an alternative disposal method for the same byproducts.
  • Flaring removes the material and produces the same amount of Air Pollution per unit input as Boiler (gas), but it does not produce Steam (High).
