Overview

The Fluid Mixer takes two fluid inputs and produces a single mixed fluid output according to the game's mixing tables. It combines the volumes from both inputs and preserves total volume: the output fluid volume equals the sum of the input volumes. For example, supplying 60 L of one color and 60 L of another produces 120 L of the resulting mixed color. Color outcomes follow the Fluid color mixing tables.

The Mixer requires fluid to be supplied to both input ports in order to produce an output. Both inputs are consumed at the same rate so the Mixer draws equally from each source. If one input stops receiving fluid while the other continues, the Mixer will not produce output until both inputs supply fluid again. The amount of fluid produced equals exactly the total amount consumed from both inputs; there is no net loss or gain in volume during mixing.

Each input has an input buffer. If the color of a supply feeding an input changes, the buffer attached to that input will first drain the remaining fluid of the old color before it begins to fill with the new color. This behavior means a temporary sequence of outputs can occur while buffers transition between colors. Output always reflects the instantaneous contents of the inputs and their buffers according to the mixing rules.

  • The Mixer applies the game's Fluid color mixing tables to determine the resulting color; consult Mixing Tables for exact combinations.
  • Both input ports must have flow for the Mixer to produce output; idle or starved inputs stop production.
  • Inputs are consumed equally; supplying unequal flow rates will cause the Mixer to take from each until balanced or until one runs empty.
  • Total output volume equals the sum of input volumes: there is no volume change during mixing.
  • Input buffers drain previous colors before accepting a newly changed supply, causing transitional outputs when source colors switch.
