Snake Vertebrae

Snake Vertebrae is an artifact item found on Ginger Island. It can be dug up from artifact spots in Ginger Island West, mined from Mussel Nodes on the Ginger Island beach, or obtained by breaking other rocks in Ginger Island West. It is one of the bone-related items used for several island and crafting-related purposes.

Two Snake Vertebrae are donated to the Island Field Office as part of the Snake specimen. Completing that specimen rewards 3 Golden Walnuts and a Mango Sapling. Because this donation requires two copies, it is usually worth saving the first Snake Vertebrae you find until you are ready to complete the collection.

Snake Vertebrae also has several processing uses. In the Bone Mill, it can be turned into Quality Fertilizer, Speed-Gro, Deluxe Speed-Gro, or Tree Fertilizer. It can also be used at a Sewing Machine to craft the Skeleton Shirt, and it can be placed in dye pots as a yellow dye ingredient.

• For the quest Fragments of the past, Gunther may post a special order requesting 100 total bone items of any combination. These items must be gathered after accepting the quest, and the quest lasts 7 days.
• Snake Vertebrae can also be used in that same general bone-item pool, making it a useful item to hold if you are working on bone-based crafting or special orders.
• The game code includes a 1% chance to obtain Snake Vertebrae by killing a Tiger Slime in the Tiger Slime Grove, but the item spawns outside the map boundaries there and cannot actually be collected.

Because Snake Vertebrae is tied to both museum progression and Ginger Island materials, it is generally best treated as a versatile artifact rather than something to sell immediately. Holding onto extras can help with the Island Field Office donation, Bone Mill processing, and tailoring use all at once.
