Overview

Amethyst is a Mineral that can be obtained from Amethyst Nodes and Gem Nodes in the Mines, from the purple Gem Bird on Ginger Island during rainy days, from panning, or as a rare drop from Green Slimes. It also has a 10% chance to drop from a slain Dwarvish Sentry in the Volcano Dungeon. Additional sources include Fishing Treasure Chests, Garbage Cans, and a Super Cucumber Fish Pond once the pond population reaches 9, which may produce 1–3 Amethyst. The Statue Of Endless Fortune produces one Amethyst each year on Abigail's birthday, Fall 13.

Amethyst is worth 100g and can be sold like other Minerals, but it is also used in several important progression systems. It is one of the possible items for the Community Center bundle that accepts gemstones, and it can be requested in quests and fish pond tasks. In the Forge, Amethyst increases the knockback of a melee weapon, making it useful for players who want to push enemies away more easily rather than maximize raw damage.

Amethyst has a few practical uses outside combat as well. It can be placed in the Sewing Machine with Cloth to create a clothing item, and it acts as a purple dye when used with a dyeable clothing item. It can also be placed in the purple dye pot at Emily and Haley's house for dyeing.

Several requests and events can consume Amethyst or reward it:

  • In the "Clint's Attempt" quest, Clint asks the player to give Emily an Amethyst and tell her it is from him. The reward is 1 Friendship heart with Emily.
  • It may be requested randomly on the Help Wanted board outside Stone's General Store for a reward of 100g and 150 Friendship points.
  • Catfish, Spook Fish, or Sunfish may request 1–3 Amethyst in Fish Pond quests.
  • Emily requests Amethyst during the "Rock Rejuvenation" Special Order.
  • It may be used in the Gem Birds puzzle on Ginger Island.

Because Amethyst has both economic and utility value, it is often worth keeping at least a few copies rather than selling every one found. Extra copies are useful for tailoring, dyeing, forging, quest turn-ins, and fish pond requests, while the remainder can be sold for quick cash.
