Emerald

Emerald is a mineral that can be obtained from Emerald Nodes and Gem Nodes in the Mines, from the green Gem Bird on Ginger Island during rainy days, by panning, or from Fishing Treasure Chests. It also has a 10% chance to drop from a slain Dwarvish Sentry in the Volcano Dungeon, may occasionally appear in a Garbage Can after the player has reached the bottom of the Mines, and can be received as a gift during the Feast of the Winter Star. The Statue Of Endless Fortune produces an Emerald on the birthdays of Clint, Emily, and Penny.

Like other gems, Emerald has several practical uses beyond selling. It is one of the materials used at the Forge to increase the speed of a melee weapon, and it can be placed in the Sewing Machine spool to create a Shirt. It also works as green dye in the dye pots at Emily's and Haley's house, 2 Willow Lane.

Emerald may be requested in a few quests and special interactions:

• It can appear on the Help Wanted board outside Stone's General Store as a random request in any season, but never before reaching floor 80 of the Mines.
• Two Emeralds may be requested by Octopus, Rainbow Trout, Spook Fish, or Super Cucumber in Fish Pond quests to increase the pond's capacity from 5 to 7.
• Emily requests an Emerald during the "Rock Rejuvenation" Special Order.
• It is also used in the Gem Birds puzzle on Ginger Island.

The Desert Trader sells Cheese on Fridays in exchange for 1 Emerald, making it a useful trade item as well as a crafting and quest resource.
