The Super Cucumber is a fish that can be caught in the ocean at The Beach or on the Beach Farm during Summer and Fall evenings. It also appears on Ginger Island at the South, Southeast, and West ocean areas, as well as the Pirate Cove, in any season. During Winter 15–17, it can be caught on the deep-sea submarine ride at the Night Market, and Magic Bait allows it to be caught regardless of time of day or season. It may also be found randomly in Garbage Cans during Summer and Fall, and the Statue Of Endless Fortune produces one on Winter 17, the Wizard’s birthday.
Outside of regular fishing, the Super Cucumber is used for several secondary purposes. It is not required for any bundle, but it can be used in tailoring with Cloth to create a dyeable clothing item, and it acts as a purple dye ingredient when placed in the sewing machine with a dyeable garment. It can also be placed in the purple dye pot at Emily’s and Haley’s house.
Super Cucumbers can be added to a Fish Pond, where they reproduce every 5 days. The pond starts with a capacity of 3 fish and can be expanded to 10 through three pond quests. When the population reaches 3, the water turns purple. The main pond output is purple Super Cucumber Roe, and at higher populations more valuable items become possible. The pond quest items are:
A Super Cucumber Fish Pond grants 45 Fishing XP for each quest. The pond’s daily production can include Roe most of the time, with a small chance of producing other items at higher populations.
One Super Cucumber may also be requested on the Help Wanted board outside Pierre’s General Store during Summer or Fall as an item delivery quest, rewarding gold and 150 Friendship points.
There is a secret use for the Super Cucumber as well: placing one in the brown box inside the fenced area north of the Blacksmith rewards the player with the ??HMTGF?? statue. Prior to version 1.5.5, the Livin’ Off The Land broadcast incorrectly stated that Super Cucumbers came out during Winter, though they only do so at the Night Market submarine ride during that season.
