Overview

Tiger Trout is a fish that can be caught in the river. It is one of the game’s hybrid fish, and like its real-world counterpart it is sterile, meaning it cannot reproduce.

Tiger Trout has several practical uses beyond selling or cooking. It can be placed in the Sewing Machine spool to create the dyeable Fish Shirt, and it can also be used as orange dye at the dye pots in Emily’s and Haley’s house at 2 Willow Lane. These uses make it more valuable than a simple sale item if you are collecting clothing options or working through dye recipes.

It can also be placed in a Fish Pond, but unlike most fish, Tiger Trout cannot reproduce in the pond. Because of that, the pond must be stocked entirely with caught Tiger Trout in order to reach maximum capacity. The starting capacity is 10 fish, and no special quests are needed to expand it. A Tiger Trout pond has only one possible output: dark brown Tiger Trout Roe.

When used for quests, Tiger Trout may be requested in a few different ways:

  • Willy may ask for 1–4 Tiger Trout during Fall or Winter on the Help Wanted board for a reward per fish, and the fish is still kept after delivery.
  • Demetrius may request 10 Tiger Trout for the Aquatic Overpopulation Special Order in Fall, rewarding gold equal to the fish’s selling value plus the Farm Computer recipe.

A Tiger Trout pond’s production depends on population. At lower population levels, it can produce roe reliably, while at 10 fish the chance of producing roe becomes much higher. The pond never produces a different item, so it is a predictable source of Tiger Trout Roe once filled.

In real life, Tiger Trout are also a sterile hybrid of Brown Trout and Brook Trout, matching their in-game inability to reproduce.
